What is a semi-trailer?
A semi-trailer is a means of transport consisting of two separate parts: the tractor and the towed trailer. When combined, the total vehicle load will be transmitted evenly throughout the vehicle, helping the tractor not have to bear all the weight, allowing the vehicle to move more easily.
A complete semi-trailer will have all of the following parts:
- Chassis frame
- Load-bearing pulley
- Rims/tyres
- Kingpin
- Humpback lock
- Suspension system
- Hub
- Brake system
What types of semi-trailers are there?
There are both passenger and cargo semi-trailers available. Here, REAL Logistics would like to introduce to everyone a specialized semi-trailer vehicle that is structured and equipped only to transport goods that require special arrangements, only to perform a special function or use. .
- Floor semi-trailer
Transporting oversized items, structural goods, steel goods, and rolled corrugated iron because of their easy tie-down properties.
- Semi-trailer retractable
Similar to a floor semi-trailer but can be withdrawn from 14m – 23m to carry oversized items.
- Badger semi-trailer
Specially used to carry construction steel, corrugated iron sheets, corrugated iron sheets (heavy, sinking, no-height goods).
- Dwarf foc semi-trailer
Specially used to carry steel structures or goods that are oversized in terms of height, width and load.
The vehicle can carry goods up to 3.5m high, 3.2m wide and 1.4m long. When carrying goods that are oversized compared to the registered size, this type of vehicle needs to apply for an oversized and overloaded permit from the Department of Transport to transport it in accordance with regulations.
- Tank semi-trailers (Tax tec)
Specially used to transport bulk cement, gasoline, oil, additives, and chemicals.
- Telescopic semi-trailer (Box)
The vehicle is designed like a cage with a surrounding skeleton and can be covered with a tarpaulin. The structure is sturdy and can withstand strong impacts. This is the type of car that garages currently specialize in for North-South transport.
Can transport many types of construction materials, bricks, bagged cement, iron, steel or agricultural products such as corn, potatoes, fruits or animal feed.
